Steel Frame Construction
Steel frame construction is not often used in the US due to plentiful cheap wood. It is much more common on very large houses or commercial construction.
Several advantages are:
- Resists rot, termites, fire
- Stronger framing members (like post and beam construction) allow for wider expanses without load bearing walls
- The outer walls are often formed with 8 inch beams, which allow more insulation thatn 2x4 and 2x6 walls
- Quick construction – parts are precut and welded an a factory. Assembly is generally short even with a small crew.
