Kyocera has a good (comprehensive, yet easy to use) solar cost/savings/energy output analysis tool at
http://www.clean-power.com/Kyocerasolar/default.asp. Put in your location and it supplies information such as daily expected output for a given tilt angle and orientation, tax and other financial incentives for your area, cost of home equity loan, comparison of equity loan and electric bill savings, etc. You can even put in obstructions, or get your reduced carbon dioxide load for using solar power.
Didn't need it then, but probably would look into solar or some other alternative energy next time,

Integral PV panels as roofing material.

And for an even easier option there is now a peel and stick version. Nice article in [the october 2006] Mother Earth News. Peel and stick the solar panel to the metal sheeting, tack it to the roof, cover the peak with a cap. The panels interlock and the cap covers the electrical interconnects. Very slick.
